POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS & CHARACTER TRAITS
We are "a community of excellence," and we work to provide all students a positive environment for learning. Our Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) program at Northwood uses the acronym of O.A.K.S to promote positive behavior throughout our building. Our O.A.K.S. program serves as a reminder to our students that they are to be:
- Outstanding Learners
- Always Respectful
- Kindness Counts
- Safety First
On a regular basis, our staff members teach students specific applications for these behaviors in different areas of our school. The School Expectations Matrix shown above provides clear expectations of these behaviors across our building, along with the character traits we value.
BULLYING PREVENTION
Bullying Prevention is integrated into our PBIS program. Along with our O.A.K.S. lessons, students at Northwood are taught specific Bully Prevention strategies. To view sample lessons and strategies, used in positive behavior support view one of the resources used in Bully Prevention lesson development. This resource is supplemented by other resources to which Northwood teachers have access.
Our District Policy on Bullying is Policy 5517.01; it may be reviewed by following the link to our district policies available on our website. District-level support for our building PBIS and Bully Prevention programs includes special services staff that are available to support program development and to assist us in specific situations.
